Kidney, Ureter, and Bladder Evaluation

A KUB (Kidneys, Ureter, and Bladder) ultrasound scan is a specialized imaging procedure designed to evaluate the kidneys, ureters, and bladder using high-frequency sound waves. This non-invasive test provides detailed images that help in diagnosing various conditions related to the urinary system.

  • Preparation: Generally, no special preparation is needed. However, you may be advised to drink water before the scan to ensure your bladder is full, which aids in clearer imaging.
  • Procedure: During the ultrasound, you will lie on your back on an examination table. A gel will be applied to your abdomen to facilitate sound wave transmission. The technician will move a transducer over your lower abdomen and sides to capture images of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder.
  • Duration: The entire procedure typically lasts about 20 minutes.
  • Post-Scan: There are no side effects, and you can return to your daily activities immediately after the scan.

A KUB ultrasound scan is commonly performed to:

  • Detect kidney stones or other abnormalities in the kidneys
  • Evaluate the structure and function of the bladder
  • Assess for urinary tract infections (UTIs) or other urinary issues
  • Identify cysts, tumours, or other anomalies in the urinary tract
  • Safe and Non-Invasive: This procedure does not involve radiation, making it a safe option for patients of all ages.
  • Real-Time Imaging: Provides immediate visual feedback on the condition of the urinary tract.
  • Quick Results: Images are available for review shortly after the scan, facilitating prompt diagnosis and treatment.
