Comprehensive Imaging for Diagnosis

A thyroid, head, and neck ultrasound scan is a non-invasive imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create detailed images of the thyroid gland and the structures within the head and neck. This test is essential for diagnosing various conditions affecting these areas, including thyroid disorders and other soft tissue abnormalities.

  • Preparation: No special preparation is typically required. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your neck.
  • Procedure: You will lie on your back on an examination table. A gel will be applied to the skin over the neck area to enhance sound wave transmission. A handheld device called a transducer will be moved over the area to capture real-time images of the thyroid gland and surrounding tissues.
  • Duration: The procedure usually takes about 20 minutes.
  • Post-Scan: There are no side effects, and you can resume your normal activities immediately after the scan.

A thyroid, head, and neck ultrasound scan is commonly performed to:

  • Evaluate the size and structure of the thyroid gland
  • Identify thyroid nodules or masses and assess their characteristics
  • Detect conditions such as goiter or thyroiditis
  • Examine lymph nodes and soft tissues for abnormalities or signs of disease
  • Investigate unexplained symptoms, such as swelling or pain in the neck
  • Safe and Non-Invasive: The procedure does not involve radiation, making it a safe option for patients of all ages.
  • Real-Time Imaging: Provides immediate visual feedback on the condition of the thyroid and surrounding structures.
  • Quick Results: Images can be reviewed shortly after the scan, facilitating timely diagnosis and treatment options
